Answers for families

Finding the right care for a loved one is one of the most important decisions a family will make. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most.

Cost & Payment
Yes — completely free to families. We are paid a referral fee by the senior living community after your loved one moves in. This is the standard model for placement agencies across the country and it never affects which communities we recommend. Our job is to find the right fit, not the highest-paying one.
Medicare generally does not cover assisted living — it covers short-term skilled nursing and rehab after a hospital stay, not long-term residential care. Medicaid may cover some costs depending on the facility and your loved one's financial situation — Maryland's Medicaid Waiver programs can help qualifying individuals. We'll walk you through what applies to your situation at no charge.
In the greater Baltimore area, assisted living typically runs $3,500–$7,000 per month depending on level of care and amenities. Memory care communities tend to run higher — $5,000–$9,000/month — due to the specialized staffing required. Skilled nursing facilities are often covered in part by Medicare for short stays. We work with communities across every budget range and will only show you options that make financial sense for your family.
Most communities accept a mix of:
  • Private pay (personal savings, family funds)
  • Long-term care insurance
  • VA benefits — often overlooked, can significantly offset costs
  • Medicaid waivers — for qualifying individuals
  • Bridge loans — short-term financing while a home sells
We help you identify every source available before you commit to anything.
Our Process
For urgent situations — such as a hospital discharge with a tight timeline — we can often identify and arrange tours within 24–48 hours. For families planning ahead, the process typically takes 1–3 weeks from first call to move-in. We work at your pace, not ours.
We match based on your loved one's specific care needs, personality, preferences, and budget — not just what's available. We personally vet every community we recommend, reviewing state inspection records, staffing ratios, and resident outcomes. We never recommend a community we wouldn't place our own family member in.
No problem at all — feedback helps us narrow things down. We'll keep searching until we find something that feels right. There is no limit to the number of options we'll explore with you and no pressure to move forward until you're confident.
Yes — we can accompany you in person or join by phone. Having an advisor with you means you know exactly what questions to ask, what to look for behind the scenes, and how to compare what you're seeing across different communities. Families consistently tell us this is the most valuable part of our service.
Types of Care
Assisted living is designed for seniors who need help with daily activities (bathing, medications, meals) but don't require 24-hour medical supervision. It emphasizes independence and quality of life in a residential setting.

Skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes) provide round-the-clock medical care, wound care, IV therapy, and rehabilitation services. They're appropriate after major surgery, stroke, or for individuals with complex ongoing medical needs.
Memory care may be the right fit if your loved one is experiencing:
  • Wandering or getting lost in familiar places
  • Significant confusion about time, place, or people
  • Behavioral changes like agitation or aggression
  • Safety risks at home that can't be managed with standard assistance
Memory care communities have secured environments, specially trained staff, and programming designed around cognitive needs. We can help you assess whether this level of care is the right next step.
Many communities offer both assisted living and memory care on the same campus — called a continuum of care. This means your loved one can transition between levels without having to change communities entirely, which is far less disruptive. When possible, we prioritize recommending these communities for families who may need that flexibility down the road.
Logistics
To make the best recommendations, it helps to know:
  • Your loved one's primary diagnosis and medical needs
  • Current level of independence (mobility, daily activities)
  • Preferred location and proximity to family
  • Approximate monthly budget or payment source
  • Timeline and urgency
Our intake form captures all of this — and if you're unsure about anything, just leave it blank and we'll discuss it on our first call.
Yes — this is one of the most common situations we handle. Call or text us directly at 443-476-0379 and tell us the discharge date. We work closely with hospital case managers and social workers and understand the urgency of these timelines. In many cases we can have options ready before the discharge date arrives.
This is incredibly common and completely understandable. Resistance to moving is usually rooted in fear of losing independence or leaving familiar surroundings — not stubbornness. We can help you have those conversations, and we've found that visiting communities together (rather than just talking about it) dramatically changes how people feel. Seeing real residents living full, social lives is often the turning point.
We primarily serve Maryland and the greater Baltimore metro area, including Baltimore City and County, Howard, Harford, Carroll, Anne Arundel, and Montgomery Counties. If you're outside this area, reach out anyway — we may be able to help or connect you with a trusted advisor in your region.
After Placement
We don't disappear after move-in. We check in with families in the first 30 days to make sure the transition is going well and that the community is meeting expectations. If something isn't right, we'll advocate on your behalf or help you explore a transition if necessary.
It happens — care needs change, or a community turns out not to be the right fit. We'll help you find a better option at no additional cost. Our goal is long-term wellbeing, not a one-time transaction.
Maryland's Office of Health Care Quality inspects and licenses all assisted living and nursing facilities — inspection reports are publicly available and we review them as part of our vetting process. We also recommend that families establish regular communication with the care team and attend care plan meetings, which are required and typically held every 90 days.
